Voice over jobs are out there just waiting for you to audition for them! Are you someone who has been told they have a face for radio? Well, that joke should now be expanded to something like, you have a face for radio, audio books, internet video narration, podcasting, and/or TV ad voice-overs. That’s because all those opportunities are now available to anyone who has a computer, even a modest microphone (we suggest USB for the whole bang-buck thing), a voice, and some knowledge.
OK, that last thing about the knowledge is actually by far the most important. First off, let me state that my goal is to teach folks how to produce the best possible audio for whatever gear, at whatever price-level, you’re working with. Good quality audio comes from knowledge more than it does from expensive gear. If you don’t believe me, listen to the two sound samples here: Home Recording and see if you can tell which one was recorded with the expensive gear. We are all about improving audio, not flooding the market with crappy voice overs.
Second, the other knowledge is a bit of understanding of the voice over business, such as knowing where to find the jobs, how much to bid, and some of the lingo. In addition to that, a little realistic expectation-management as to how persistent you have to be is also important. This stuff isn’t hard, but the lack of this knowledge has prevented many a would-be voice over actor from ever getting even one job.
So if you think you’d like to try you hand at voice over work (interesting juxtaposition of words, no?:)), check out the article: http://www.homebrewaudio.com/voice-over-jobs-where-to-find-them-and-how-to-get-them
Good luck!
